Privacy statement
Last updated
I'm Monica Bright, and I run Bright Design Consultancy. I respect your privacy. This statement explains what personal information I collect through this website, how I use, store and share it, and what you can ask of me, in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its Information Privacy Principles.
What I collect
When you send an enquiry through this website I collect the details you give me: your name, email address, phone number, project location, the service you are interested in, and your message. The form also asks a few optional questions: where your project is up to, how big it is, when you'd like to start, and which council the property is in. You can skip any of them; your answers help me reply usefully and are kept with your enquiry. I don't ask for more than I need to reply to you and discuss your project, and I never ask for your street address on the form.
You can also attach plans or photos. These can show the layout of a home and where it is, so please only send what you are comfortable with. Attachments are kept privately with your enquiry and are never put on the website.
If you become a client, I will also hold the information needed to design your project, such as site details, plans, and correspondence. These are kept securely in my own business records, not on this website.
Why I collect it
I use your details only to reply to your enquiry, arrange a consultation and, if you go ahead, to deliver my services. I won't sell your information or add you to a mailing list without asking.
How long I keep it
An enquiry that doesn't go on to become a project is deleted, with any files you attached, 24 months after I receive it. If you become a client, your enquiry becomes part of your client record and is kept for as long as the project and any legal or professional obligations need: usually at least seven years after the project ends, which is how long New Zealand tax law requires business records to be kept.
The website keeps backup copies for up to 30 days, so a deleted enquiry can remain in a backup for up to 30 days after it is deleted. Messages the form's spam filter catches are kept aside for 30 days, so a real one can be recovered, and are then deleted.
Where it is stored
Enquiries and attachments are stored on the server that runs this website, which is in Sydney, Australia (DigitalOcean). Backup copies are also kept off-site, encrypted, with Backblaze (a backup storage company) in the United States, for up to about 30 days. Only I and the person who maintains the website can access them.
When you visit the website
Every visit passes through Cloudflare, a United States company that protects and speeds up this website. Like any web host, Cloudflare and this website's server see your internet (IP) address and the pages you ask for. The server keeps that in its standard logs for 14 days, then deletes it.
To stop the contact form being flooded, a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of your internet address is kept for up to 3 days when you send an enquiry (deleted after 2 days by the nightly clean-up). Your address itself is not stored with your enquiry.
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Email alerts
When you send an enquiry, I get a short email about it, sent through Resend, an email service based in the United States, from its servers in Japan. It contains your name, your email address (so I can reply to you), your location, the service you chose and the start of your message. Your attachments are not sent.
Sharing
I only share your information when it is needed for your project (for example with an engineer or builder, with your agreement) or when the law requires it. The services named above handle it only to run this website for me.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete your enquiry. To do so, contact me using the details below. I will respond within 20 working days.
If you are not satisfied with how I have handled your information you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
